Canada Child Benefit

Once you've signed your agreement, make sure to review the Child Tax benefit considerations under the Child Support section There are provisions there about who can apply for the Canada Child Benefit.

Visit the CRA for more information on making the applications in your CRA My Account site and to download the form to submit to them. There are a few links to follow from that page to find the right instructions and form.

The CRA makes an assumption that the female parent is the primary parent unless you tell them otherwise. They expect you to notify them immediately of any parenting time changes that may be outlined in your agreement. If you do not notify them right away, they may clawback benefits you've received.

Eligible Dependent Tax Credit

Once you've signed your agreement, make sure to review the Child Tax benefit provisions regarding the Eligible Dependent Tax Credit. There are provisions there about who can apply for the Eligible Dependent Tax Credit each year. This is a tax credit you apply for at tax time.
