Entering child information accurately
You’ll be asked to enter information about each child covered by your Separation Agreement. As with spouse information, accuracy matters. Names, dates of birth, and other details flow directly into the Agreement, so correct spelling, capitalization, and formatting are important.
You can update this information at any time. It’s best to enter the most accurate information you have now, knowing you can come back and make changes if needed as your agreement develops.
Children over 19
Under British Columbia’s Family Law Act, a “child” is under the age of 19. Children who are 19 or older are not automatically considered children for family law purposes.
However, child support may still be payable for a child over 19 if they are unable to be financially independent due to health-related reasons or because they are pursuing post-secondary education.
If this applies to your situation, be sure to enter the child’s information carefully and accurately. The details you provide here help ensure that any ongoing support obligations are properly reflected in your Agreement.
